A Strong Financial Future
- Responsible budgets and long term planning
- Protect our water, roads and infrastructure
- Pursue grants and outside funding
Live Oak needs to make responsible financial decisions today while also planning for where our city will be five, ten and twenty years from now. Balancing a budget is important, but real financial leadership also means forecasting future costs, rebuilding reserves and preparing before problems become emergencies.
As a business owner, I understand that every dollar has to serve a purpose. You have to know what is coming in, what is going out and what obligations are ahead. The city should regularly review its spending, contracts, debt and long term commitments so residents are not caught off guard by financial problems or sudden costs.
Our water system, roads, sewer, drainage and other infrastructure are directly connected to the financial health of the city. Repairs and upgrades usually become more expensive when they are delayed. We need a realistic long term plan that identifies the most urgent needs and creates a responsible path toward completing them.
Live Oak should also be aggressive about pursuing grants, regional partnerships, low interest financing and other sources of outside funding. We should not place every financial burden directly on residents when state, federal and regional resources may be available. The goal is to make smart decisions today so Live Oak is in a stronger position tomorrow.
